On the Origin of Game Music

Arcade cabinets can be seen as the birthplace of the modern video-game soundtrack. Before the days of the mass-market of home gaming consoles and before PC gaming had really taken off, the arcade cabinet was the primary vessel for games, and in an era where technology was just a lot bulkier, their size allowed them to be filled with tech to be incorporated in the game that just couldn’t be achieved on smaller machines.
